Oak Class

(written by Oak Class)

Hello, we are Oak Class!  We are in Years 5 & 6.

We really enjoy all the different things we learn at school, especially PE, art, Topic work and ICT.  Year 6 children have school responsibilities, such as ringing the bell, setting up assembly and delivering the registers.  These jobs are really great and we look forward to choosing them.  We also enjoy leading projects such as creating our new library and fund-raising events such as "Den-day", or help running the Book Fair.  We often assist in running cake sales too.

Year 5 and Year 6 go to camp every year and it rotates between Mill on the Brue and Great Potheridge House. We really look forward to going on the residential visit in the Autumn Term when we work in teams, try new things and have an amazing time!  We always have fun, the activities are enjoyable and they always keep us busy during the week. We always have great memories of camp!

We are a friendly class and get on well with each other.  There are other exciting things about being in Oak Class, such as performing our school production in the Summer Term, school trips and the leaving events before moving on to our secondary schools.  We enjoy being the oldest pupils, taking on responsibilities and organising things.  Cameley gives a really good start.

There are opportunities for the children to learn across the curriculum with topic work as well as music lessons and clubs which appeal to their interests.  We take part in events such as the annual Maths Challenge, Bath Taps Science Fair, and sports festivals as well as enjoy topic-related trips.   Being their final year at Cameley, the children respond well to becoming more responsible, independent and helpful to one another as well as their younger fellow pupils.  They are also required to set a good example and value the truth.  The Golden Rules and school's Christian values are displayed in the class and provide the basis for our school ethos and expectations of behaviour.

It is always a privilege to see how they grow and develop over the two years in Oak Class - making the most of the opportunities and building memories for life.  Then finally we work hard to make sure that they move on with a smooth transition to Year 7 at their new secondary school.

We welcome communication: parents may phone, email or come in.

Our weekly routines are:-

  • English and Maths are taught every morning, other subjects in the afternoons;
  • PE is on a Monday with Miss Maggs and Wednesdays with Coach Coby. Children need a PE kit in school every day;
  • Homework is given out on a Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday;
  • The spelling test is on a Tuesday afternoon;
  • Times tables are texted on Friday in 100 Club.

Sometimes these routines may have to alter for a variety of reasons.

General school uniform reminders: no make-up or nail varnish or jewellery.
