Writing
Writing at Cameley
Writing is a life skill that all children should be exposed to as it is used as a form of communication, for variety of reasons, in everyday life. At Cameley, we want our children to become resilient writers, who build their skills year on year to prepare them for their future. Writing at Cameley works in conjunction to reading to help augment our children’s passion for reading, as we will be promoting a love for writing, through a range of carefully chosen, high quality books.
Writing in the Early Years
Quality texts are also used to support the children’s writing in our Early Years Unit. The children learn these texts throughout the term and complete one directed writing task per week with an adult, including speaking and listening opportunities. Continuous provision activities are used throughout the week, providing children with a range of writing and fine motor opportunities.
Writing in YR 1-6
Children will be exposed to one high quality text during each term. These have been carefully chosen to engage children with at least two ‘Big Write’ opportunities as an outcome. One of these will be with a non-fiction focus and the other with a fiction focus. Units are taught in 3 week blocks, where children will be taught the skills building up to their final pieces of work.
Impact
Children’s work at Cameley is assessed every time they complete a ‘Big Write’. This is assessed by teachers against the National Curriculum statements.
